10 famous things in nepal

10 famous things in nepal

1. Kathmandu
     Capital of Nepal

Kathamandu Nepal's capital, is set in a valley surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. At the heart of the old city’s mazelike alleys is Durbar Square, which becomes frenetic during Indra Jatra, a religious festival featuring masked dances. Many of the city's historic sites were damaged or destroyed by a 2015 earthquake. Durbar Square's palace, Hanuman Dhoka, and Kasthamandap, a wooden Hindu temple, are being rebuilt.

2 Bhaktapur

Many Nepalis use the old name of Bhadgaon (pronounced bud-gown) or the Newari name Khwopa, which means City of Devotees. The name fits – Bhaktapur has three major squares full of towering temples that comprise some of the finest religious architecture in the country.

Cultural life is also proudly on display. Along narrow alleys, artisans weave cloth and chisel timber, squares are filled with drying pots, and locals gather in courtyards to bathe, collect water, play cards and socialise. To view this tapestry of Nepali life, visitors must pay a town entry fee, which helps fund temple repair and maintenance.

5 Trekking in the Annapurna Region.

Raving about the wonders of the Annapurna Circuit trek is like saying the Grateful Dead is your new favorite band. People roll their eyes at your lack of imagination. The central Nepal trek is so well-known that it’s almost cliché. Travelers have been praising the 128-mile route, which circles Nepal’s heaven-high Annapurna range, as the holy grail of trekking since it was first opened to foreigners in the early 1980s. Sure, there are treks that are more rugged or more remote, huts that are more luxe, pilgrimage sites that are more holy, wildlife that's more exotic, and even scenery–sacrilege!–that's more beautiful.
But could another trail step up and swipe Annapurna's crown? Nope. After hiking the circuit myself in the fall of 2008, with my wife Emily on our honeymoon, I must join the chorus of Annapurna groupies. Four decades after it opened, the circuit is as captivating as ever. Here are five reasons why Annapurna should be your next major trek (and a detailed guide to help you plan your trip).

1. The Annapurna Circuit Gets Better Every Day

2. The Annapurna Circuit Is a World Party

3. The Annapurna Circuit Has the Best Food

4. It's Always Surprising

5. It's a Living Trail

8 Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)

Swayambhu literally means "self-existent one". Believed to date back to 460 A.D., it was built by King Manadeva and by the 13th century, it had become an important center of Buddhism. Legend has it that Swayambhu was born out of a lotus flower that bloomed in the middle of a lake that once spread across the Kathmandu Valley once was. The largest image of the Sakyamuni Buddha in Nepal sits on a high pedestal on the western boundary of Swayambhu beside the Ring Road. Behind the hilltop is a temple dedicated to Manjusri or Saraswati - the Goddess of learning. Chaityas, statues and shrines of Buddhist and Hindu deities fill the stupa complex. The base of the hill is almost entirely surrounded by prayer wheels and deities. Devotees can be seen circumambulating the stupa at all times.

9Everest and the Trek to Base Camp.

What does Everest mean?
Its most common Tibetan name, Chomolungma, means “Goddess Mother of the World” or “Goddess of the Valley.” The Sanskrit name Sagarmatha means literally “Peak of Heaven.” ... In 1865 the mountain—previously referred to as Peak XV—was renamed for Sir George Everest, British surveyor general of India from 1830 to 1843.

How much money does it cost to climb Mount Everest?
“The typical cost when climbing the Everest with a Western agency is $45,000 and above. With a local Nepali operator it can be between $25,000 and $40,000.” The cost includes the royalty fee of $11,000 for the peak. Most agencies conduct sherpa-supported climbs

10 Lumbini

Lumbini has a number of older temples, including the Mayadevi Temple, and various new temples, funded by Buddhist organisations from various countries, have been completed or are still under construction. Many monuments, monasteries and a museum, and the Lumbini International Research Institute are also within the holy site. Also, there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he had his first bath. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, then achieved ultimate Enlightenment and finally relinquished their earthly forms.
